The skin could become infected. I've taken ticks out of snakes the most don't know if ever happened but im sure it did. Wash the area with a betadine solution. It will clean it very well. Your dogs body may send it out to the surface of the skin. If swekking and irritaion ocurs take dog to vet. If it gets red and swells it is probly infected. Hope that helps.
