How Did The Acadamy Award Get The Name Oscar?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The information is sourced from a number of sites, but it seem that the answer is unclear, although the most popular theory is that the Academy librarian Margaret Herrick believed there was a resemblance to her Uncle Oscar and hence the nickname.

The official site of the Oscars has this link which says basically the same thing.  Although there is no direct evidence, parts of the story can be substantiated.
