Network Adapter: Network adapter is a PCI device you can locate it in the back side of your computer casing first locate it if it is there, the problem to which you are pointing to is reflecting that your computer does have a network adapter but the compatible driver for the device is missing which can be resolved by the following method
    1) Start Menu.
    2) Settings.
    3) Control Panel : in control panel, you will find many options click on the "System" a new window will open go to the "Hardware" Tab and click "Device Manager".

when you open the device manager you will find devices installed on your computer locate whether the Network adapter is installed or not if installed uninstall it and click the option at the top of the menu bar "Search for Hardware Changes" the computer will ask you for installation of new device if you have the driver on CD which is normally provided with the network adapter or at any other resource give the path or the second method is that the computer will install the driver itself which might not work and the scenario you have mentioned is reflecting that your computer doesn't have the compatible driver for the device so you have to locate the driver.
