How Do You Shade To Make It Look 3d?

I enjoy childrens' books and would like to illustrate and write my own. I especially love the illustrations that are beautifully drawn and painted that give it 3-d effect and make them come to life. Whenever I try to shade my drawings I can't quite make them look right, even when I have done hours of studying subjects and objects in real life! How does one shade correctly to give it that oomph?

The best option for you is to use Adobe photoshop cs 2. You can give many  shade options there. Words, pictures, letters, or anything which you want to give shade to, you can do so. Plus, they have many types of designing, in the filter option. Just experiment with different words and letter using these filters, you can create a dynamic 3d look. Or use ulead cool 3d software. This is especially for letter 3d effects. This is more easier and user friendly as compared to photoshop
