To make a simple network between two computers, you only need LAN cards and networking cable.
To make a LAN, you need LAN cards, networking cable and a Networking Switches.
To make a WAN, you need LAN cards, networking cables, a Networking Switches and routers.
To make a LAN, you need LAN cards, networking cable and a Networking Switches.

Protecting the Intranet (network within the facility) from the outside internet - possibly a hardware firewall.
Twisted pair cabling throughout the facility connecting all the devices together.
