    Verona is a city of northern part of Italy. The city is located on the river named Adige. The city of Verona is an old one. The name of Verona could be seen from the early or ancient history of mankind. Verona was the Roman colony in the time of 89 B.C. The great poet of Italy, Catullus was born in that territory of Verona. Goths captured the city after the decline of Roman emperor.

    The Ostrogothic king Theodoric captured the city in the year of 489. He defeated the Odoacer's king in that year and Verona was the site of that history. Verona was taken and occupied by the Charlemagne in the year of 774. The Della Scala family ruled the city from the year of 1260 to 1387. The era of Della Scala family's history was reminded in the classic 'Romeo and Juliet', which was written by the great poet of all time, William Shakespeare.

    Verona was under the rule of Venice from the year of 1405. It was still occupied by them till the year of 1797. From the year of 1797, the territory was come under the rule of Austria. It became a part of the kingdom of Italy from the year of 1866. The ancient Roman amphitheatre was situated in that city on the 1st century. Now-a-days the site of amphitheatre is used for opera. The city is famous for Romanesque as well as Gothic buildings. According to the census report of the year of 2001, the population was estimated around 243,474.
