What Role Did Johnny Depp Play In The Movie Platoon?

Johnny Depp played the translator.Recent review of the movie on the biography channel states that he actually had alot more parts in the film that were later cut out.They were cut out because his character looked more interesting upon review of the movie then the main character played by charlie sheen.Depp was actually considered for sheens part but at the time he was virtually a unknown so they cast the more known sheen.Depp stole the show and overshadowed sheen even in his smaller part,thus making the directors cut it.The character he played was Private Gator Lerner.
