Do Most People Paint The Wall And The Ceiling The Same Color?
My friend wants his walls painted and he says to paint the ceiling the same color, I say you don't, who is right?

Most people used to paint the ceilings white, no matter what color the walls. Modern design is moving away from that idea. Try this: Add several drops of your wall color to white ceiling paint. I've NEVER painted my ceilings the same color as the walls! YUCK! You need 2 different colors....this breaks the room up differentiating the wall from the ceiling.
I do agree with yzdancer, you can paint the ceiling a LIGHTER color than the wall to compliment it.
Ceilings are usually painted white, or a VERY pale colour, because dark or strong colours make the ceiling seem low, and darken the room. If a colour is used then a slightly darker shade of the same colour on the walls would look nice.

No! Painting the walls one color and having a better light reflecting sunlight and artificial light is the norm. This would have the ceiling a white, off-white or a silver white, in a flat paint. A slightly less pronounced shade of the wall color can be considered. Take as an example a dark royal blue painted walls with the same treatment on the ceiling...you would feel like being in a cave & would not be at ease!

Now a days no one paints their wall and ceiling with same color. There are so many shades available in the store so people usually paint wall with different color then ceiling.

Well I have painted my wall and ceiling the same color but the room is huge with high ceiling ( it does make the room feel smaller), but if you have a smaller room i would recommend either white or using a shade lighter then wall
