      Measure the width and the length them multiply the 2 numbers to arrive at the square footage of the floorspace. If you want the storage capacity in cubic feet then measure the height and multiply that figure by the square footage.

        The area of a rectangle is its length times its width.
        area = length*width.

        In order to get the area in square feet, the length and width need to be expressed in feet. If you have the measure in feet and inches, convert the inches to feet and add to the number of feet. If you have the measure in meters, divide that number by .3048 to get the measure in feet.

        Example:
        The garage measures 23'4" by 15' in the main area, and an alcove measures 7'6" by 10'.
        The square footage of the main area is
        main area = (23 4/12 ft)*(15 ft) = 23.33*15 ft2 = 349.95 ft2.
        The square footage of the alcove is
        alcove = (7 6/12 ft)*(10 ft) = 7.5*10 ft2 = 75 ft2.
        Total area = main area + alcove = 349.95 ft2 + 75 ft2 = 424.94 ft2.
