How Are Doors Constructed?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Panel doors are doors which are made with frame and panel assembly and are also called stile and rail doors. Stiles, rails, mullions, panels, lites, planks and battens are the various types of vertical and horizontal boards that are used in the construction of doors. Plank and batten doors are an older design which consists primarily of vertical slats. The design of most modern-day doors, including most interior doors, are flush doors.

The core material, or the material within the door, is used mainly for the purposes of filling space, providing rigidity and reducing the druminess. These materials include hollow-core, lock block, stave-core, solid-core and skin. There are four types of door swings, namely left-hand doors, right-hand doors, left-hand reverse doors and right-hand reverse doors. Door swings are determined from the outside to the inside.
