What Can I Do When My Child Is Afraid Of Sleeping In His Bedroom?

Recently my 3 years old son is waking up at nights very often saying that he is afraid of being in his room because he sees monsters and things. Me and my wife have tried to calm him down but he continues waking up crying very loudly for a while, so no one at home is getting enough sleep and we are very tired. Do you have any idea of what we can do to make him sleep well? Thanks a lot.

It happens with most of the children at an early age. You should make him sleep with you and guide him properly. Tell him the truth about these things. If you believe in religion then ask him to remember God and say hymn.

Hi some of children who are afraid of sleeping alone in their bedroom, but you should explain to them,  let them understand that they have to sleeping in their room, everybody is the same and that's the rule, let them get the habit gradually but not imposing them.

Good day Matador, You don't mention your child's age but my idea became a routine in my home and today, my daughter who is almost 15 still enjoys this.  Head off to bed a few minutes early so you can sit on the bed with your child and 'chat'.  It could be about school, about friends, plans for the following day, Anything that your child would like to chat about.  It's easy to start the conversation - just ask how the day went.  Try to be specific because children are renowned for one word answers if you are not direct with your question! Such as, 'what did you have for lunch in school today?' or 'did you like that movie you watched?' It's amazing how this 'quiet time' becomes 'special time' for both of you!  If you are a family that prays, say a quick evening prayer to end the evening, kiss your child good night, leave a low wattage light on and the door ajar and say goodnight and tell him or her you love them!  Good luck!
