Why Is Regular Exercise Important For Bones And Muscles?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Bones are constantly being renewed, cells called osteoclasts drill microscopic holes in bone and cells called osteoblasts follow laying down new bone. This process, which goes on all the time, enables broken bones to 'knit' together. The bone renewal process is enhanced by exercise and therefore exercise results in healthier bone. Muscles respond to exercise by enlarging and producing more mitochondria (energy factories) whereas muscles not used tend to waste away.
