What Is The Difference Between Dual Processer & Dual Core?

Answer Question

Having two processors is good for any one who is using the computer for video editing and a huge amount of multi-tasking. A system having two separate processors (a dual processor) or a single dual-core processor like Pentium D both are almost equal in serving the needs of the person who requires versatile operations from their computing system.

Two CPUs attached to one socket on the motherboard is called as "dual core."  The benefit of a dual core is that it keeps the price of the motherboard reasonable and also gives the advantage of the power of two CPUS (call them cores if you want!) at a cost lesser than two isolated chips. If you take the example of the AMD Dual core system and AMD Dual processor system, both have almost similar hardware. The only difference is in the mother board and the processor. While the Opteron (dual processor system) has 2 processors running at the speed of 2.2 GHz with 1MB of cache, the Athlon (dual core) has two cores, attached to the motherboard, running at 2.2 GHz and each sporting a 1MB cache. In a nut shell, there is not much functional difference between a dual core and a dual processor and both fare equally in the performance barometer. However the dual core is affordable compared to the dual processor computer.
