SDLC or Systems Development Life Cycle is a new concept that has evolved with the development of software technology. It is the process through which a system is created or altered. This term is used in connection with the information systems and the computers and also includes the numerous models and methods used for development of information systems.

There are a number of phases involved in the development of a system or software. These phases are as follows:

    - Planning and Initiation
    - Determining requirements and Analysis
    - Design of the system
    - Building or coding for the system
    - Testing of the new system
    - Operations and management of the new system if testing is successful.

These phases are in fact very logical to human beings. However, these phases are organized in such a way by the system analysts that they always result in  a high quality system that is useful for the organization as a whole.
