There are a number of cars that could fit the tag of being one of the most economical cars in the world like for example various prototypes have been developed that claim to use unbelievably low quantities of fuel; the ones that can be mentioned in this regard are the Volkswagen 1 liter car that can give a high mileage of 100 km per liter of fuel.
Another vehicle developed by Swiss researchers is the futuristic Pac-Car which according to the developers could make a global run while consuming only 8 liters of fuel; it uses hydrogen fuel cell technology and could become a mass produced car sometime in the future.
