My 1 Year 4 Month Old Yorkshier Terrier Is Throwing Up A Lot. What Should I Do? I'm Really Scared.
My dog is a Yorkie and is very active, but throws up a lot sometimes , he eats twice a day and has been eating nothing but his dog food. I don't know why he throws up. He is up to date on his shots and is an inside pet. What should i do.
Any young dog that is vomiting needs to be examined by a veterinarian. Young dogs like young children are notorious for getting into things. Some things like garbage or stuff in yard just cause gastroenteritis (vomiting or diarrhea) that is mild and self-limiting. But when they eat rocks, articles of clothing, pieces of toy, etc they can get stuck in the stomach or intestinal tract causing a foreign body obstruction. Your dog needs x-rays to image the stomach and intestines to see if an obstruction is a concern. Even with gastroenteritis it is best to have your dog examined. Small dogs, like Yorkies, become dehydrated and hypoglycemic very quickly. They often need supportive care (fluid therapy) and injectable medication to stop vomiting and settle the stomach. The problem with oral fluids, oral meds, and Pedialyte in a dog that is vomiting is they do not keep it down so they do not gain any benefit. You can try Pedialyte but if your dog's stomach is still upset he will just throw it up.
Take him to a veterinarian immediately. If there will be a delay, give him Pedialite (in the baby isle at the grocer or Walmart) Just let him drink it, don't force him.
