How Many Galaxies Are Present In The Universe?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The universe consists of basically countless galaxies, and since the early days of modern science, scientists have been trying to determine the exact number of galaxies that exist in the universe. This has not been an easy task, primarily because of the size of the universe itself. In the early days, there was no means to comprehend the actual size of the universe, and so it was difficult to even estimate accurately how many galaxies existed in it. However, over time the developments in science and technology have given us to actually figure out how big the universe is, and determine the number of galaxies in it. Even then, the count has been varying at times, primarily because newer galaxies were being located almost daily. That has been the trend even now.

However, the Hubble Space Telescope has made a huge difference to a lot of things about the universe we were previously unaware of or mistaken about. According to images of the universe taken by four camera on the telescope (three WF and one PC), there are an estimated 125 billion galaxies in the universe.
