How Do I Change An Ignition Lock Mechanism & Key For A 1997 Thunderbird?

If you want to change that yourself first, remove the plastic covers under the steering .Insert key and turn it to ACC position. Locate the small button outside the lock cylinder; it can be located easily after removing the plastic covering. Pushing the button will help you getting the whole assembly out. Do the same procedure when installing a new ignition lock. The new one would be with new key so that the key would be changed automatically when you change the lock.
