There is no parameter that can say that this is the space in you hard drive that can be considered as a good one and you should configure according to it. It is the individual's choice that decides the space that is required in the notebook a person uses.
     
Usually people prefer eighty GB of hard drive in their notebook because it can store hundreds of thousands if data in itself and the owner of the notebook can never be out of space to save something that he has done while moving out.
      
Though for a notebook people use more space, when it comes to the desk top of the same person usually he keeps it less than that and often it is found at forty GB.
