Madrid has 3 main galleries.

• The Prado Museum which houses some of the finest works that were ever produced in European art from the 14th to the 19th century. One of its most famous pieces of art is Spanish painter Diego Velázquez's 'Las Meninas'(The Maids of Honour) and Francisco de Goya's world famous painting, 'La Maja Vestida' and the 'La Maja Desnuda'.
• Thyssen Bornemisza Museum which sprung as a result of a mixed private collection. It inlcudes works of American and European Artists who painted towards the second half of this 20th century. Many of the painings here are said to exhibit a strong expressionist and impressionist influence.  
• Reina Sofia Museum was opened in the year 1992. It is home to some of the finest works of the famous Pablo Picasso's and Salvador Dali. Guernica, one of Picasso's most famous painting is kept in this museum. It also has a series of videos, books and sound recordings all of which provide a more indepth look at art.
