My Dad And I Have Just Started To Build A Relationship Together And Now He's Moving Abroad. How Can We Continue To Get Closer?

It can be very hard to grow up with only one parent being there, or being able to be there for whatever reason. Sometimes you don't get an opportunity to build a relationship with your other parent at all and I think it is great that you have both made an effort.

I understand that after you have gained so much in getting to know each other that this may feel like a huge set back. You won't be able to spend the level of time with you that they have been able to.

You also have to understand that lives move on too. And that this could be quite an exciting chapter for both of you. With technology the way it is you can email, chat and even video cam over the internet now. You might find that without some of the pressure its a little easier.

Talk to your dad. Explain you are sad he's leaving, but try an arrange a time for you to visit. Set up a way to communicate and don't let go. Like any relationship, lack of contact will make them fall apart. Not the distance.
