    A hard drive when installed in a computer is partitioned into various drives. These drives are typically named "c:, d:, e:" etc. The floppy drive is generally referred to as the "a:" drive where as the CD drives are referred to by the alphabet f: In different machines different names may be designated for the different sectors. To find out the size of ones hard drives simply right click the respective icons and select properties. A screen will appear which will mention under the general tab the drives used, free and total space. The area of each of the drives can be added and total area determined. The required information can also be recovered from the BIOS screen. Earlier hard drives had a capacity of 4.3 GB, 8 GB, 10 GB and 12 GB. Now however, higher capacity ranges of hard drives are available with capacities of 20, 40, 80, 120 GB and beyond.
