Where Do The Himalayas Run?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Himalayan mountain range, the highest in the world, is located along the north eastern part of India. Its lofty peaks reach a height of 26,000 feet/8000 meters and are the prime location for some of the world's most daunting mountaineering expeditions. The mountain range runs for a good 1,700 miles from Kashmir to Assam stretching across Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Afghanistan. One of the most strategically located mountains in the world; it has the Nanga Parbat to one end and the Namche Barwa to the other. Composing the Himalayas are the various mountainous ranges that can be divided into the Lower Himalayas, the Sub Himalayas (also called the Shivaliks), which are the youngest of all the ranges, the Great Himalayas, which are home to some of the worlds highest peaks such as Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga, and the Tibetian Himalayas. The Himalayas are also the beginning place of the Indus basin along with the Ganga-Brahmaputra Basin.
