How Do You Make Garlic?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Garlic basically is a perennial plant found in the family Alliaceae and species Allium, strongly linked with onion, shallot and leek.

It is not that difficult to produce garlic, start of by choosing which kind of garlic you wants to grow. Normally 'elephant garlic' is chosen for planting. The soil where you're going to grow garlic has to be deep, fertile and drained. Also apply general garden fertilizers to the soil. The best time to sow garlic is the autumn season, since garlic requires warm temperature for proper growth.

Select the largest and fattest seed cloves, and sow them with the root end facing downwards, standing vertical, approximately one inch inside the earth's surface. At times home grown garlic can be disappointing, having tiny bulbs or at times no bulbs at all, this is because of poor seed quality.
