On a road surface, the longest ever tunnel is called Laerdal and it measures about 15.2 miles that estimates to around 24.5 kilometers.  It was during the year 2000 in November that this tunnel was inaugurated in Norway on a formal and official basis.  The tunnel was created by penetrating through the channels of various mountainous ranges, being an engineering paragon, which connects the capital Norway that is Oslo to the seaport of the second largest city of Norway.  Laerdal is about 29.5 feet in width and its altitude measures around 21 feet.  It is an estimation that about 1000 cars and trucks travel for a durability of about 25 minutes while driving through the tunnel.  To keep the tunnel safe from any sort of accidents, the builders of this tunnel have configured fire extinguishers at every 410 feet and have also installed various systems of lighting so that the drivers could see clearly and find no difficulty in remaining cautious of their surroundings.
