DOS refers to Disk Operating System. It is operating system software that is used in almost all the computers. The purpose of dos is to provide for the management and the abstraction of the device that is secondary storage and the relevant information's on these devices. These devices are called as dos if the storage devices they manage are made up of the platters that are rotating that may refer to the hard disks or the floppy disks.
