Venice comes under the region of Veneto. It is situated in the north eastern part of the country and borders Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna as well as Friuli Venezia Giulia and Austria. It is often called the 'Queen of the Adriatic'. Other important regions among the place are Padua,Verona, Belluno, Vicenza , Treviso and Rovigo. Veneto is one of the regions where the citizens are given the title of 'popolo' by the Italian Parliament.

The only other place that enjoys this title is Sardinia. Veneto was the name given to one of the main Italian battleship during the Second World War. Previously it used to be a very crucial destination, a seat pf sea power used by the Crusades. It also was an important place for trade –that of spice and art (at the time of the Renaissance.)
