What Does Tempest Mean?

The term tempest basically means a violent commotion, disturbance, or tumult. The Tempest is also the name of a well known comedy play written by William Shakespeare. At the time when it was written and released it hardly gathered any sort of attention.

Nevertheless, during the twentieth century the played received widespread acclaim by critics and scholars, to such extent that it is now thought to one of the best works of William Shakespeare. The Tempest is one of the few plays of Shakespeare which does not have a classic foundation for the in general narration. Though it is said that; certain words and images in the play seem to have been taken from Eden's "The Decades of the New Worlde or West India and Erasmu's Naufragium.
