What's The Point Of Having The Right To Bear Arms?

The right to bear arms, which was the 2nd amendment to the U.S. Constitution, is important because it allows citizens to have a means of personal defense.

It is *not* intended for personal defence, it specifically encourages the existence of a well-armed militia for the defence of the country against invaders. As with neutral but armed to the teeth Switzerland, where every household is *required* to keep an assault rifle, any invading force would find the entire country up in arms against them.
