I Live In California, And Have Just Been Recently Informed That My Landlord Has Defaulted On The Mortgage Loan. Can I Get Out Of My Lease?

My landlord has defaulted on the mortgage. She didn't want to tell us. We are on a six month lease that will end July 1st. She says the interest rate sky rocketed. Well I went to the county assessor office and purchased a copy of the default notice which states she hasn't been paying since June of 2007 which is essentially when we moved in. Can I get out of the lease? She is going to try to quick sale, I just don't want the hassle of the lockbox and people coming in and out of my home.

Yes you can go out of it but you need to act smart. Consult the local authorities and show them your agreement copy if possible. They might give you a proper way out. Otherwise you can even break the lease in this scenario.
