Who Was George Romney?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

George Romney was born in 1734 and passed away in 1802. He was a well-known British portrait painter.

He began his career by touring the north countries, painting portraits for a few guineas each. In 1762, he established himself as a portraitist in London, England and quickly won favour among society patrons by the flattery of his likenesses.

Infatuated with Emma hart (who was later known as Lady Hamilton) about 1781-82, he went on to paint more than fifty images and portraits of her. He simply admired her beauty in every angle.

Line rather than colour denominates his work, and the flowing rhythms and easy poses of Roman classical sculpture underlies its smooth patterns.

George Romney was very well-known and admired by all people who looked at his paintings and portraits. People came from all over the world to look at the beauty pieces of art work that the created.
