What Does A Service Of A Car Air Conditioning System Involve?

Answer Question

Re-gassing an air conditioning system of a car is a fairly straightforward operation but it must be done professionally. It will cost somewhere in the region of £60 to £80, with VAT extra at a reputable garage in the UK.

A service that also fits a new accumulator/dryer will be almost twice as much but there is divided opinion on whether it is always necessary to do this. Some people argue that it does need to be done because it stops the silica gel desiccant in the system breaking up, flaking off and damaging the system as it passes through.

Others think that replacing the accumulator is just a way to introduce dirt or dust into the system and it should be avoided as a matter of routine maintenance. It should only be done when there is evidence of a problem that requires the accumulator to be changed. This might be if the system has lost gas and needs to be re-gassed after a very short time.
