In my point of view light back ground with dark font is much better and also looks more professional. It helps the viewers to see the clear visuals and can easily understand what is being said by the presenter. If the audience can get what the presenter is saying then they can easily look on to the slides to correlate things. And they can do so if they can see clearly what's written on the slide. Usually slide with dark back ground with light font don't look good to the eyes especially blue background with yellow it looks awful. So try to use combination of colors which appeal to ones eye. And try not to use too many colors.

Now there is another point if some one wants to have a colored hard copy of these slides then it will easier to read and use slides which have less byte (pixels) of color. The darker the background color then more pixels is used and thus lot of bytes as well as space in needed. And the printing will consume lots of time.

So try to use colors which go with the topic as well as look good to human eye and never go for sharp or flashy colors because it doest look good and lots of criticism will be waiting after the presentation ends.
