Brash means to be hasty, impetuous or unthinking. Also, to be impudent and presumptuously forward in behavior, is to be brash. It can also mean to be rash and lacking in sensitivity or tact.
The founder of the House of Olaf, a Swedish dynasty in the 9th century and early 10th century was known as 'Olaf the Brash'. He was a Swedish chieftain who conquered Denmark.
He had two sons, Gyrd and Gnupa, They ruled Denmark together and in the Swedish tradition. Gnupa's son was Sigtrygg Gnupasson and his name is mentioned on the Runestones. After his death, his mother had these runestones erected in his memory. Brash is also a surname, though not a very common one.
