An IP address can be located by E-mail. IP address is the protocol by which computers exchange and transfer information.

The IP address of the computer is stored in an email header. Some lines start from the word 'Received: from' which is followed by some words and figures. These words are the IP address.

Consider for example when you get an e-mail from 'soso'. On your e-mail header it will clearly be written 'received: from soso.mit.edu (65.67.189.30) this number followed by the name is the IP address of the person mailing you.

These lines of text are automatically inserted by the email server. Email headers can be thought as the envelope of postal mail. Thus by checking the IP address one can be confident that it is the right person sending the email.

IP address can also be hidden since some people choose to maintain their privacy therefore it will not be possible to locate an IP address through E-mail if the person has protected or hidden their address.

If you are talking about your personal computer's I.P. Number, it is assigned  to each computer manufactured for Identification from any other. The same as every vehicle that goes out has a VIN number.

If you have the computer skills run a revers algerrythem to trace the origin of the address. Or you could ask your internet provider to look it up in there records.

There is no real way that I know of unless you respond to the email.  However, I would not open any emails that you are not aware of whom they are from.  There are so many viruses out there that creeps will send you you don't know then you open it and your computer is then infected.  Please be careful.  I know a lot of people this has happened to recently.  I don't open anything I don't know whom it is from now.  Especially spam.

I have 2 different emails that came in to me. I know for sure where the first one came from but the 2nd on i am not sure. Both senders know me. I know them but i am just not quite sure if one of them is playing games with me. They are telling me things that only someone that knows me would know. So i am trying my best to find out who it is... ( they wont tell me)

These are two good sites for tracking down an IP address. Remember if the IP you are trying to trace is using a program like Tor you will not likely succeed. They have proxies so many times that it will be misleading.
