Yes you can, and you'll feel much better in yourself using this essential oil insect repellent as well!

    Take:

    16 drops Lemongrass
    12 drops Peppermint
    22 drops Lavender

Mix the essential oils with 100ml cold-pressed vegetable, nut or seed oil to make up a massage lotion for use on a regular basis, and store it in the fridge, in a small glass bottle. (Never store essential oils in plastic bottles – the plastic can contaminate the oil.)

Not only will it keep the bugs away, but:

Lemongrass is a nerve tonic and releases anxiety
Peppermint invigorates the body and stimulates the mind
    and
Lavender soothes the body and calms the mind

So you may find yourself wanting to enjoy the benefits of this aromatherapy recipe – or just using it as an excuse for a soothing and uplifting massage, even when there isn't a single, solitary bug of any kind within a hundred miles.

Check out citronella. You can get this in essential oil form and candles to burn if you are outdoors. Of course, there are other natural methods. Have a word with your health food shop, they are usually very helpful and sometimes have leaflets to take away
