Located at 55'N Latitudes, Edinburgh has pleasant summers. Edinburgh has a maritime climate and due to its proximity to the ocean it experiences relatively small variations in temperature. Most of Scotland experience this type of relatively mild climate due to the proximity to the ocean. Here summers are quite pleasant and cool with temperatures rarely going above 73F. As Edinburgh's is situated between the coast and hills it is does have strong winds, the direction being from south-west. This wind brings warm air and rainfall which is distributed through out the year. Winds from east are generally cold and dry. The table below shows typical average temperatures over summer months in degree Centigrade.

    April May June
    Mean Maximum Temperature 11 14 17
    Mean Minimum Temperature 3 6 9

Winters are quite mild and temperatures remain above freezing point for most of the time. Other places such as Moscow which lies in the same latitudes, experience far harsher winter temperatures as they are far from ocean influence.
