There are two ways to train as a nurse- diploma or degree level.
To train as a nurse at diploma level (in a nursing school) you need at least 5 gcses at grade c or above, or recognised equivalents.
An access certificate gives you the qualifications needed to do a degree at university, if you don't have a-levels.
So, to do a nursing degree you will need to do a one-year access to nursing, healthcare and social work course. Once you have this certificate you start your degree, which takes another three years.
