I have an adult female cat and thinking about getting a female kitten but my partners says that we should get a male as two females wont get on - any advice/experience?

If you are worried about the potential of the two female cats fighting you should consider picking a male to add to the family instead. There is less risk of aggression between them than with female cats. If you do chose a second female you will need to make sure each has its own territory ( 2 kitty litter boxes) and things of that nature to prevent any issues. If one is already an adult and the second is a kitten I'd guess they'd get along fine. I have two female kitties and they get along fine although each would rather hang out with one of the dogs than each other!
