The phrase naked truth is actually a very good descriptive term. A lie can have various 'layers' which need to be unravelled, whereas truth is simple and straightforward and as such has no layers and so is 'naked'. It is also regarded as being objective and therefore has no need to hide.
There is also a 'moral fable' associated with the term.
It describes how Truth and Falsehood had always been bitter enemies. However, one day Truth decided that they should try to be friends. Falsehood agreed. So they went swimming in a lake.
Falsehood came out of the water first and being a sneaky sort, he decided to put on Truth's clothes.
Truth came out to find that he had no clothes. Falsehood ridiculed him and told him to take his clothes, so they would effectively swop. Truth refused and therefore ended up naked. So we have the naked Truth!
