New England basically is a province of America situated towards the north-eastern corner of the nation. It comprises of the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The district was populated by native people when English Pilgrims, fleeing religious persecution in Europe, arrived approximately four hundred years ago, at the start of the 17th century. During the 18th century, New England was one of the initial North American British colonies to exhibit aspirations of independence from the British Crown, though it would later resist the War of 1812 between America and Britain.

During the 19th century, it played an important role in the movement to put an end to slavery in America. A person who hails from New England is addressed to as New Englander.
