After an interview, the interviewer may or may not make any indication vis-à-vis your prospects of landing the job. If they are suitably impressed they could make an offer on the spot. In all probability you'll hear the line "We'll call you if you are selected."
As an interviewee, you could send them a note saying a few days later how you enjoyed the exchange of ideas. This will not help you if you've had a bad interview but will be the icing on the cake if you have had a good interview. One of the important things that you should do, post interview is note down all the questions that were posed. Pay special attention to those questions which you felt were answered unsatisfactorily. Do a root cause analysis of those answers, will you put it down to nerves or a lack of functional knowledge. This will help you in subsequent interviews.
