There were a lot of people credited with inventing the airplane, but I think that the wright brothers, get the most credit due to the fact that they were the first to be able to control the airplane......

There are many people that worked on making the airplane, but the Wright Brother's were the first to make a flight that was controlled and landed successfully. Hope this helps.

I believe Galileo was the first to envision man flying in a structure that first became know as a airplane. The Wright Brothers Orville and Wilbur were the first to design and successfully fly in a man made device that actually flew.
