The first manchester Newspaper was the Manchester weekly Journal.
Little was known about the publication before 1839 when C. H Timperely in his Dictionary of Printers and Publishing mentions the date January 1719
' The Manchester Weeekly Journal, containing the Freshest Advices, both foreign and domestick, To be continued VVeekly. NUMB 325 Thursday March 25th 1725 Manchester.Printed and sold by Roger Adams at the low end of Smithy-door where all Sorts of Bound Books and Stationary are sold; and Summonds, Warrents, Commitments, Passes, Certificates relating to Settlements and Burials are Printed and sold at reasonable rates. Price one penny'.
The paper appeared to have little information on the social , economic or political life of Manchester or Lancashire. Very little is known about it as most copies were lost.
Roger Adams returned to Chester and began the production of the Chester Courant.
The Manchester Weekly Journal lasted until c 1725
