Do Children's Picture Books Always Have A Moral?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Not neccessarily. It depends what type of picture book it is. A novelty picture book doesn't have a moral, and other picture books enable children to learn new words rather than give a moral.

Some picture books that do not have a moral include: The 'Where's Wally' books, the 'Mr. Men' books, 'Haunted House' (Jan Pienkowski), and 'Peepo' (Janet and Allan Ahlberg).

Picture books with a strong moral include 'The Smartest Giant' (Julia Donaldson), and 'Claude Makes a Change' (Edward McLachlan).

Picture books are a good way of teaching children about morals, as the pictures appeal to them and make them more willing to learn. If  a picture book doesn't have a moral, then it needs to have some educational element or some activities for the child. Novelty books are particularly good as they keep the child motivated and don't seem as tedious to get through.
