How Do I Arrange Flowers?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There are some helpful hints for arranging flowers.

Typically, a floral centrepiece should be a couple of inches lower than eye level of those who are sitting at the table. Start an arrangement by using your largest flowers and foliage first.

Professional florists often create arrangements in a particular shape, like a sphere or pyramid. This has a unifying effect.

Dark flowers work well near the centre of the arrangement. Try placing lighter colours near the edges.

If you are arranging flowers in a shallow container rather than a vase, you can use a frog or piece of oasis to anchor the flowers in. Soak it in water for 15 minutes before hand.

To maintain your flowers, change the water every day and keep them out of bright light. A secret recipe for making an arrangement last longer is to add half a cup of carbonated water and one teaspoon of sugar to the water.
