I believe 16 is not the appropriate age for allowing kids on a holiday alone. 18 is the age when you no longer remain a minor and can make your own decisions. This includes going alone on holidays with your friends. So I suppose you would have to wait for another two years.

In the UK, you are legally allowed to go on holiday on your own at your age. However, if you want to go through a travel agent (e.g. Thomas Cook), they may not let you go without someone 18 or over, or they may ask your parents for their signatures. An idea would be to book flights and hotels independently as you should not have any problem doing this (although you may need to borrow a parents credit card to book them). If you go, have fun!
