Usually the site will ask you to type the name that you are using when you do that, an option will be generated that will ask you the new screen name and you will have to type it twice for confirmation.

When you type the new name twice, it will take approximately one second to process and your new name will be generated on the screen. Now you can use the new screen name for further communication.
