An animal called hippopotamus's name is literally translated as a "sea horse" in Greek. If we translate the name hippopotamus in Afrikaans, it is a "sea cow". As the name suggests, we can even compare the fashion of a hippopotamus's body to that of a horse's body. A hippo has round buttocks just like a horse. His head, at a point, looks like that of a horse, only with small ears. Hippo is a South African mammal, where it is known as a sea cow. Hippopotamus is the scientific name for this plant eating mammal. This mammal is extant and is on the verge of becoming extinct. The last three species of hippos called the Hippopotamidae became extinct about 1000 years ago.
