What Is Java 3D?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Java 3D basically is a scene graph-based 3D application programming interface for the Java platform. It functions on the OpelGL or Direct3D.

Since its 1.2 edition, Java 3D was created during the Java Community Process. JSR 926 specifies Java 3D 1.4. The present edition of 1.5.0 was launched in December 2006 and the Java 3D 1.5.1 edition is still in the development phase and is going to be launched in May of 2007. In comparison to other platforms, Java 3D is not just a wrapper across these graphics APIs, but an interface which summarizes the graphics program applying a real, object-oriented perception.

Intel, Silicon Graphics, Apple and Sun all of them had retained mode scene graph APIs under development in the year 1996.
